Why Sikeston is Great!

If you'll pardon our pride, those of us living and working in the Sikeston area think we're in a great community. Consider this:

We have a wonderfully diversified economy - Sikeston is a commercial hub of retailing, services, and manufacturing surrounded by an equally diversified agricultural panorama of cotton, corn, wheat, rice, soybeans, potatoes and more. Our manufacturers produce agricultural equipment and trailers, wiring, packaging, automotive products, aluminum, steel doors, manufactured homes, and lots and lots of ice cream. We are national headquarters for long-term residential healthcare companies, a multi-state cable television network, and several other firms. Click on "Manufacturers" in the Businesses and Organizations menu to learn more.
We have a well-educated workforce - Sikeston is fortunate to have two satelite college campuses to help educate our workforce. The Southeast Missouri State University at Sikeston offers a broad selection of college-level technical and work-preparation courses to further enhance the skills of current and future employees. Moving into a state-of-the-art 40,000 square foot facility at Sikeston's Business, Education and Technology Park in Spring 2000, this educational facility also provides customized short-term training tailored to the needs of individual businesses. In order to meet the diverse needs of our student body and our communities throughout the region, Three Rivers Community College offers three different Associate Degrees and more than 40 high-demand programs are offered at TRCC, from accounting to welding technology to nursing and teacher education A seamless stream of education stems from close coordination between the Higher Education Centers and Sikeston's AAA-rated public school system. Click on "Schools" in the Businesses and Organizations menu to learn more.

We have a sophisticated infrastructure - The Sikeston Area is at the junction of Interstate Highways 55 and 57, and U.S. Highways 60, 61, and 62. Union Pacific and Burlington Northern railways intersect at Sikeston, and waterway transportation facilities on the Mississippi River are located north at Scott City and south at New Madrid. The City of Sikeston offers a modern network of municipal power and water, with surrounding utility needs well-serviced by Scott-New Madrid-Mississippi Cooperative and the regional generating plant of Associated Electric Cooperative. Click on "Public Utilities" in the Businesses and Organizations menu to learn more. And, to get the full picture on all business opportunities in Sikeston - including our sparkling new Business, Education and Technology Park, click on "Business Expansion Opportunities" on our homepage.

We have a fully involved community - Sikeston, its neighbor city Miner, and the surrounding area make up a community of faith, charity, and hospitality. Our churches, civic clubs, charitable organizations, recreational groups - and the thousands of volunteers who support them - provide a quality of life that few can match. Click on "Churches" and "Clubs/Organizations" in the Businesses and Organizations menu to learn more. We love our community, we salute our nation with thousands of flags every holiday, and we welcome our visitors with a full dose of Southern Hospitality. We are pledged to grow and be even more vibrant but will do so with the greatest sensitivity to our family-oriented lifestyle.

That's why we think Sikeston is great, and we hope you will enjoy it with us!
